5* Motors give Cammels the Hump

VAUXHALL MOTORS  5 v 1 CAMMELL LAIRD

Motors bounced back to form on Boxing Day with a comprehensive victory over local rivals Cammell Laird at the Syncreon Arena.

Motors took 15 minutes to open their account, when home skipper Tom Mitchell headed home at the near post a corner from Ben Holmes from the right. Lairds hopes of a recovery were not helped by the 29th minute dismissal of Josh Brabin for a reckless two-footed tackle close to the dugouts and just before the break in added time, Joe Heath fired home a second Motors goal from just outside the area to double their advantage.

The ten-man visitors pulled a goal back on 69 minutes when a free kick from the right was headed home by defender Paul Byrne at the far post but any hopes of a fightback were quickly extinguished by Motors as they restored their two-goal lead with an inch perfect free kick from Dave Webb from the left which defeated keeper Steve Longrigg at his near post.

It became 4-1 on 86 minutes when Joe Brandon’s right-wing cross was turned in by substitute Keiran Hamm, just two minutes after his introduction and close to the final whistle, the same striker was brought down inside the area resulting in a penalty, which Webb dispatched in some style to complete the scoring.
