Motors cruise through

LONGRIDGHE TOWN  1,  VAUXHALL MOTORS   3.

From a disastrous start to this Buildbase FA Vase tie, the Motormen cruised to victory. They will now travel to Cheadle Town a week on Saturday in the next round.

The hosts got off to a perfect start netting after just 90 seconds through skipper Richie Allen at the near post from a left-wing cross.  But that fine beginning turned sour for the Lancashire side when the captain was shown a straight red card after just 14 minutes, leaving them with just ten men to defend their lead.

Motors began to assert themselves and duly equalized on 38 minutes when Damase Kiwanda latched on to a poor defensive pass across the face of goal to hammer home from 12 yards. From this point on, there did only seem to be one winner of this contest as Motors totally dominated the second half.

They had three decent shouts for penalties in the opening 15 minutes of that period but 3 minutes later, they took a deserved lead when Ben Holmes corner from the right was headed home by defender Matty Carlin.  It was now all one-way traffic as the visitors sought a third and it came on 85 minutes.  Again, a right-wing corner from Holmes, this time turned in at the far post by Carlin to make it 3-1.

This coming Saturday, the Motormen are at home to Eccleshall in the Hallmark Security League Division One South, kick off at 3pm.
