Motors to strong for Visitors

VAUXHALL MOTORS 4 v 1 NEW MILLS

Mick McGraa’s side secured their fourth straight league victory at the weekend, as they completed a league double over Derbyshire outfit New Mills at the Syncreon Arena.

The Motormen got off to a perfect start, when the unfortunate Jack Meylan headed beyond his own keeper from Ben Holmes’ left sided corner after just 5 minutes. And midway through the first half, the hosts doubled that early advantage when Matty Carlin headed home following another Holmes corner to put Vauxhall in control.

But that lead was quickly reduced when New Mills profited from their own corner, when defender Joe Armstrong struck from close range as he latched on to a headed pass.  That seemed to unsettle Motors for a while but right on the stroke of half time they regained their two=goal advantage when Joe Brandon headed in after great approach play between Damase Kiwanda and Karl Noon, saw the latter’s effort partial saved by Jim Downhill, only for Brandon to finish off the attack for a 3-1 interval lead.

Motors effectively wrapped up the points just 8 minutes after the restart.  From yet another corner, Carlin appeared to have bundled the ball over the line only for the referee to wave play on but Kiwanda was on hand to convert at the far post to make it 4-1.  Danny Cross in the first half and both Holmes and the unlucky Noon after the break also went very close to adding to the score but Motors will be extremely happy with this latest win, as they continue to climb towards the leading clubs in the division.
