Score Draw for Motors

VAUXHALL MOTORS  1,  WYTHENSHAW AMATEURS  1.

Vauxhall’s put their nightmare defensive lapse at Cheadle Heath Nomads at the weekend behind them at the Syncreon Arena on Tuesday night, but they were still thwarted in their attempts to get back to winning ways by a useful Wythenshawe Amateurs side.

The Motormen, again short of key personnel, began the brighter of the two sides, but had to wait until three minutes before the break before edging in front, when defender Kyle Scarisbrick glanced a header into the corner of the visitors net from a free kick by Luke Edwards out on the right. After the break the home side again threatened the Amateurs goal without success and they were pegged back on 64 minutes when the lively Jordan Burton latched on to a fine pass on the left before he pulled the ball back for substitute Nialle Rodney to smash home the equaliser from twelve yards.

Motors replied with a smart move involving Kieran Hamm and Damase Kiwanda, the latter being denied by Amateurs keeper Martin Blain, before the visitors went close at the other end, with home goalie Owen Kirkham pulling off a double save to deny the earlier goalscorer more glory. But before the end, home captain Tom Mitchell had a glorious chance to head home a winner, only for his effort to go over the bar from a corner.

A draw seemed like a fair result on the balance of play and now the Motormen will be hoping to gleam three points on Saturday, away at Ellesmere Rangers, who have struggled so far this season in the Hallmark Security League Division One South.

Vauxhall: Kirkham, Scarisbrick, Schumacker, Quinn, Mitchell, Cross, Exell, Drummond, Hamm, Kiwanda, Edwards.  Subs: Mason, Maldon, Breen & Lavelle.
