Vauxhall Motors will face Emley AFC in the Second Qualifying Round of The FA Vase this Saturday afternoon at the VanEupen Arena.

Emley, nicknamed the Pewits, play in the Northern Counties Eastern League and have done so since their promotion in May 2021.

This was based on results from the past two abandoned campaigns and they’re currently placed second after eight games.

Andrew Painten is the chairman of the club with Richard Tracey being manager since his appointment in 2019 following his time at Ossett Albion.

When Tracey took over he expressed his feelings of delightment at taking on his new role and explained the first time that he came across The Pewits on a playing level.

“On my full debut for Rotherham United we played against Emley and I didn’t particularly play too well. It finished in a draw but we would beat them in the reverse fixture”.

He also described Emley as a ‘Sleeping giant’ and explained that one of his main aims is to get fans back through the gates.

It was supporters that created the club as in 2002 the former side’s reserve team was disbanded after the club was renamed Wakefield and Emley.

This caused friction with the fans of the original club as they then established a new side called AFC Emley. Wakefield has since dissolved.

Ashley Flynn was the man who set a goalscoring record for the current club as he netted 73 goals, a league record, in 2015-16.

It is an Emley player that is currently top goalscorer for the league this campaign, Joe Jagger on 11 league goals.

However, he will have to do a lot if he is to match Flynn’s record.

When on the road, Tracey’s outfit take to the pitch in Yellow and Claret.

They will look to match their current record of reaching the Fourth Round of The Vase, this campaign, as they done so nine years ago.

However, Mick McGraa’s side are in great form which will mean a great cup tie is played out this weekend as the Motors manager gave his thoughts on the upcoming game after Tuesday night’s narrow victory against Ashton Athletic.

“I love The Vase. I felt it derailed us last year which was something that disappointed us. However, it’ll be a very tough game against Emley on Saturday and it’s a game that we’ll give our all in to progress”.

Motors look to progress further than last season’s 90th minute heartbreak in this competition, as Mick McGraa’s side went 1-0 up against North Shields in the Second Round proper, before two late goals from the Robins sent the Motormen crashing out of the cup.
All support for Vauxhall Motors is appreciated, as the Motormen look to go through to the First Round Proper and make it just 6 wins from Wembley!
