Macron Cup visits the VanEupen Arena

Vauxhall Motors return to action on Saturday afternoon as they face South Liverpool in the Macron Cup at The VanEupen Arena.

Motors, having been knocked out of the FA Vase, will be hoping to add to their successful start to the season by experiencing a good cup run and this competition may be the one that provides just that.

South Liverpool play their games in the NWCL Division One North after the club was refounded in 1991 and the club’s home stadium is on Jericho Lane, Aigburth.

Footballing legend John Aldridge started his career at South Liverpool as he played for their youth side between 1978-1979 but at the end of the 1997-98 campaign the reserve team was scrapped due to a lack of funding and they went on to fold in 1991 before being taken over by the committee.

The visitors have had a tricky start to the campaign this year as they are currently positioned 17th after nine games but Martin Ryman, who has held his role for more than twenty years, will be of the hope that he can galvanise his squad as he’s the club’s most successful manager.

In the Macron cup last season, Motors were beaten in the second round at home to Cammel Laird 1907 as a late Jay Harvey goal won the tie for Stuart Kier’s side 2-1.

The Whites’ last three honours:
2018/19 West Cheshire League Bill Weight Memorial Trophy Winners.
2019/20 West Cheshire League Pyke Cup Winners.
2020/21 West Cheshire League First Division Champions.

Gerry Keegan has the most appearances for the club with 545 between 1956-1970, Keith Jones is the man with the goalscoring record as he netted 244 between 1992-2006.

All support for Mick McGraa’s side is appreciated thus they look forward to welcoming you at The VanEupen Arena this weekend, with admission being £6 adults, £4 concessions and £1 for Under 16s.
