Motors complete comeback against REMY

Last weekend, The Motormen were knocked out of the Macron Cup on penalties thus it was vital they got back to winning ways when facing 17th placed Litherland on Saturday afternoon.

It was a second half strike from Ben Holmes that won the game which resulted in a 2-1 scoreline.

Conor Harwood found Bobbie McDonnell with a great pass to the right wing in the opening minutes. McDonnell cruised past his marker but his shot was easily caught by keeper Adam Reid.

A few minutes later, McClenaghan produced a good save at the other end as a great cross by Paul Foy met its intended target at the back post.

Jordan Deer unleashed a fantastic shot from outside the area which nearly flew into the top corner but for another save from Reid. No corner was given to the bemusement of manager McGraa.

The visitors’ search for the first goal of the game saw them being awarded a penalty when Oliver Nugent was fouled just inside the box.

Left back Jamie Clark rifled the penalty into the top corner of the net which left McClenaghan with no chance of keeping the game level.

Just before the half time whistle blew, Harwood equalised when his header hit the crossbar and the ball creeped just over the line.

Remyca could’ve got themselves back in lead when a free kick from William Dunne was struck narrowly over the bar.

However, it was Ben Holmes for Motors that found the net with a fantastic shot from outside the area. The effort was rifled into the bottom corner.

Holmes was close to netting his second to kill the game in the latter stages but his header from inside the area failed to hit the target.

Motors are next back in action on Tuesday night as McGraa’s men visit Charnock Richard.
