Motors fall to first defeat of the season

CHEADLE HEATH NOMADS  5,  VAUXHALL MOTORS   2.

Vauxhalls went down to their first reverse of the season on Saturday but the scoreline barely tells the story, as the Motormen missed a host of chances to have more than make a game of it.

But it didn’t start well, conceding a goal inside the very first minute and after 10 mins it had become 2-0 to the pacey home side.  Motors rallied well but then started to fire blanks before the home side made it 3-0 after just 26 minutes play.  Striker Ben Greenop then pulled a goal back for the visitors almost from the restart but it didn’t signal a comeback.  Indeed Cheadle regained their three-goal cushion via a penalty just five minutes later to lead 4-1 at the break.

In the second half, more Motors chances went begging before defender Tom Quinn reduced the deficit once more, but Motors, missing a number of key players (Brandon, Cooper, Dures, Holmes & Murray), simply couldn’t muster a late charge and whilst pushing forward, conceded a fifth just deep into injury time, to give Nomads a very flattering victory.

Vauxhall line-up: Lavelle, Mason, Schumacker, Scarisbrick, Mitchell, Quinn, Maldon, Cross, Greenop, Kiwanda, Edwards.  Subs: Drummond, Exell, Hamm, Hunt.
