Motors yet to find victory in NPL

Vauxhall Motors were heavily defeated on Tuesday night at The VanEupen Arena as they faced Prescot Cables.

It continues to be a frustrating start to the season for The Motormen who are yet to pick up a win in the Northern Premier League.

After a balanced start it was John Murphy who opened the scoring and the visitors would go on to net a further two in the second half.

The Motors had a brilliant opportunity to get themselves in front early on when a good cross was sent to Stephen Rigby at the back post. Rigby’s headed effort was fired straight at keeper Michael Allen.

At the other end, good play by The Cables brought Kyle Sambor the ball inside the box. His shot was fired over the bar but raised the voices of the visiting supporters.

It would be Sambor’s side to net first as Jack Goodwin drove inside from the right before passing to John Murphy, he struck confidently.

Vauxhall ended the half pushing for an equaliser as an audacious effort from striker Lewis Buckley, outside the area, ran just wide.

Manager Mick McGraa made some attacking changes soon into the second half with Connor Harwood and Michael Burkey replacing Buckley and Rigby.

However, Prescot would double their lead through Tom Owens who finished off a lovely move as Sambor beat his man on the right before placing the ball into the box.

The Cables continued to push for more and would have two efforts cleared off the line before finding their third. Murphy rounded keeper Sam Booth to net this one.

After another heavy league defeat, Vauxhall will now turn their attentions to an away game at Chasetown on Saturday before hosting City of Liverpool on Bank Holiday Monday.
