Holmes Hails Ellison as Vauxhall Prepare to Celebrate 1,000-Game Milestone

Danny Holmes hails Kev Ellison

Vauxhall Motors will mark a truly remarkable footballing milestone this weekend as veteran forward Kevin Ellison celebrates his 1,000th career appearance when the Motormen welcome Runcorn Linnets to the vanEupen Arena.

Ellison’s achievement places him among a rare group in the modern game, and Vauxhall Motors manager Danny Holmes has paid glowing tribute to a player he describes as invaluable both on and off the pitch.

“With Kev there’s not enough words to express how good of a player he’s been and still is, and how much he means to us all at Vauxhall Motors,” Holmes said. “What he does for the group is incredible.”

Now well into the latter stages of a long and storied career, Ellison continues to set standards within the squad, regardless of his role on matchday.

“He leads by example whether he’s starting or he’s on the bench,” Holmes added. “Not only that, but aside from football he’s an incredible human being. We’ve been very fortunate to have him and to get the most out of him, even at the age he’s at now.”

Reaching 1,000 senior appearances is an almost unfathomable feat in today’s game, something Holmes believes is not fully appreciated outside the professional environment.

“People won’t understand how big of an achievement it is to get to a thousand games – it’s borderline impossible,” he said. “For him to reach that and to do it at our incredible club, he deserves every accolade that comes his way.”

Holmes highlighted the sacrifices Ellison has made throughout his career, and the example he continues to set for younger players with ambitions of progressing up the football pyramid.

“He deserves it because he’s sacrificed his whole life, and he still makes those sacrifices to this day,” Holmes explained. “How he prepares for training and for games is inspiring. The lads we have who have goals to play higher need to tap into Kev and ask him as many questions as they can.”

Ellison’s influence extends far beyond his performances on the pitch, with the club utilising his experience in multiple ways.

“We’ve utilised Kev in so many different ways on and off the pitch,” Holmes said.

For the Vauxhall manager, the occasion also carries personal significance, having previously faced Ellison as an opponent.

“I’ve had some really tough games against him as a player,” Holmes reflected. “Now I’m incredibly proud to manage him when he’s receiving this accolade of a thousand games. Let’s hope he can get a few more added to that tally.”

Saturday’s fixture promises to be a special occasion at the vanEupen Arena, as players, staff and supporters come together to celebrate a landmark moment in both Kevin Ellison’s career and Vauxhall Motors’ history.
