Manager's Notes: Chasetown
Danny Holmes gives his thoughts on this weekends game against Chasetown
We’ve had two away games since our last home match against Atherton Collieries, which ended in a draw. We felt we should have secured all three points that night, so it was important for us to put things right after that performance.
Against Sporting Khalsa, we showed the quality we possess going forward, something we have demonstrated all season. We continue to strive to score as many goals as we can in every game and to improve collectively in the opposition’s final third. In our last two away games, we have shown that in abundance.
It was great to see four different goal scorers. Conor and Kevin once again provided us with goals, as they have done throughout the season. JJ also got on the scoresheet, which should help him build momentum heading into the final stages of the campaign.
I was over the moon to see Sam score his first goal for the club. He has a bright future ahead of him.
Prior to the Wythenshawe Town game, I said to the players that any win at this stage of the season is massive.
Our game plan from the first whistle was to put them under pressure because we knew they were vulnerable defensively, and they showed that. However, I was still disappointed at half-time and told the players that we could have taken the game to them even more.
Kyle's hat-trick was great to watch. He could be the difference for us in the run-in because he has so much quality in front of goal and also has an eye for creating chances for others. There is still more to come from him this season, and he would agree with that. Hopefully, we see that from now until the end of the season.
Although I was proud of and delighted with the performance, the main thing I mentioned at the end of the game was the manner in which we conceded the two goals. They were very poor goals to give away.
Calvin came in and echoed my thoughts too because he is a true professional, and we allowed our defensive standards to drop. We switched off and became complacent, thinking the game was won, and we cannot allow that to happen.
We are entering a crucial stage of the season, and I won’t play that down, but we need to take it game by game, starting with Chasetown today.
Every game matters, and every game we will try to win in order to achieve our goals by the end of the season.
Your support has been fantastic, both home and away. Let’s keep that going and make an even bigger push between now and the end of the season.
