Match Preview: Vauxhall Motors vs South Liverpool

Vauxhall Motors continue their preparations for the 2026/27 season this Tuesday evening, as they welcome South Liverpool to the Premier Jet Stadium for our second pre-season fixture.

After opening the summer schedule with a competitive victory at Cammell Laird, the Motors return to home turf looking to build further fitness, sharpen performances and continue adapting to the demands of pre-season under the club’s new coaching team.

The Opposition

South Liverpool are one of the most historic names in Merseyside football, with a rich heritage dating back to 1935. Although they have never been directly affiliated with Liverpool FC, the club has long been an important part of the region’s non-league football landscape.

The club currently competes in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division and continues to combine experienced players with emerging local talent as they look to challenge towards the top end of the division.

Known for their commitment to attractive, attacking football, South Liverpool will provide another valuable test for the Motors at this early stage of preparations.

Last Season

South Liverpool enjoyed a mixed 2025/26 campaign, securing a mid-table finish in the North West Counties League Premier Division finishing in 16th place whilst demonstrating their ability to compete consistently throughout the season.

They proved particularly dangerous going forward, with several impressive performances against promotion-chasing sides highlighting the quality within their squad. As with every club at this stage of the summer, pre-season offers an opportunity to integrate new faces and build momentum ahead of the new campaign.

Tuesday’s Test

With the new season edging ever closer, every pre-season fixture represents another important step in the preparation process.

Supporters can expect to see further rotation throughout the evening as the coaching staff continue to assess the squad, manage player workloads and give valuable minutes to both established players and those looking to impress.

While results remain secondary during pre-season, matches like these provide the perfect opportunity to develop match sharpness, strengthen understanding on the pitch and continue embedding the team’s playing principles.
