Motors lose ground in playoff chase
Vauxhall Motors dropped out of the play off places on Bank Holiday Monday after a dismal 4-0 defeat at fellow promotion chasing Lower Breck FC.
The only highlight for the away side came on 15 minutes, keeper Calvin Hare producing an excellent save low down from a Sam Burns penalty to keep the scores level.
That disappointment wasn’t going to keep the home side down for too long.
Winger Elliot Hughes robbed the ball from Motors centre back Toby Jones 18 yards out and calmly slotted to give the home side the lead.
Motors should have equalised through striker Connor Harwood, but his poor effort was saved by keeper Theo Roberts.
The home side doubled their advantage midway through the first half through Jordan Barrow, who rose unchallenged to head his side into a deserved 2-0 lead.
Sam Burns added to his tally of 19 league goals just before the hour mark, when he was allowed to run unchallenged from the half way line and slot past Hare to make it 3-0 to the hosts, and no way back for the visitors.
To rub salt into their wounds, former Motors winger Nathan Corness made it 4-0 on 80 minutes, capping off a dreadful day for the away side.
The result pushes the home side into the last play off spot in place of the Motors, and crucially reduced the goal difference down to 0
Danny Holmes will hope that his team can put in a different performance on Wednesday, when they face Runcorn Town in the semi-finals of the Cheshire Senior Cup, as the Motors look to reach the final for the first time in 4 years
