Motors exit Cheshire Cup after defeat to Runcorn Town

Motors suffer semi-final defeat

With a 3rd game in 5 days for Danny Holme's side, it was always going to be a tough ask to go to recently crown North West Counties 1st Division South champions Runcorn Town, but the manner of defeat will give cause for concern for the rest of the season.

Another lacklustre display from the Motors saw the home side take a deserved 3-0 lead in the first half though goals from ex-Motors midfielder Tom Ruffer, Connor Spiers and Jamie Apperley.

Jawad Jebrin got onto the scoresheet midway through the 2nd half to give the away fans some belief, but it was a mere consolation on a poor night in front of goal.

The victory for Runcorn Town means their reward is a trip to Gresty Road for the final, where they will face League Two side Crewe Alexandra, hoping to add another trophy to their historic season.

The Motors will hope to arrest their poor recent run at the weekend, when they host 2nd place Avro at the vanEupen Arena.
